What is the return on investment (ROI)?

The payback period for a geothermal system varies widely, ranging from one to fifteen years.

It will be shorter:

  • if heating and/or cooling is needed for much of the year (better for a swimming pool than a school)
  • if temperatures are low, the heat pump will operate at optimal efficiency.
  • if access to the geothermal resource is inexpensive (a groundwater aquifer close to the surface is ideal)
  • depending on the financial assistance available, which will reduce the out-of-pocket costs

Is geothermal energy compatible with renovation?

Geothermal energy is used in both new construction and renovation projects.

Under certain conditions, replacing a fossil-fuel heating system may qualify for substantial CEE incentives!

However, it is important to be mindful of the following points:

  • To be optimized, switching to geothermal energy may require replacing the heat emitters (to switch to a low-temperature system)
  • This change, along with changes to distribution networks, is essential for taking advantage of refrigeration capacity
