Feasibility Study

The feasibility study is the foundation of your energy strategy. It serves as a technical and economic decision-making tool prior to undertaking extensive design studies.

The ADEME-format feasibility study is conducted by Géothermaq in collaboration with a partner thermal engineering firm to provide a comprehensive service that integrates both underground and surface components.

The Objectives of the Feasibility Study

The challenge is to turn an environmental goal into a viable project. Our mission is to:

Verify Regulatory Compliance

Examine all regulatory requirements applicable to the project and verify that geothermal energy is permitted.

Compare Solutions

analyze the various geothermal options and compare them with a baseline solution.

Verify that resources match needs

Ensure that the basement can provide the heating and cooling capacity required by your facilities or processes.

Evaluate the cost-
-effectiveness

Estimate the total cost of ownership and calculate the actual return on investment.

Our Analysis Methodology

Our engineers and hydrogeologists combine expertise in several areas:

  • Energy Needs Analysis: Analysis of your historical energy consumption data or dynamic thermal simulations (DTS) for new construction projects.
  • Hydrogeological assessment: in-depth review of BRGM data and subsurface databases, and analysis of surrounding boreholes.
  • Site constraints: assessment of available land area, proximity to utility networks, accessibility, and location of energy production facilities.
  • Environmental Assessment: Calculation of Avoided CO₂ Emissions and Contribution to the Tertiary Sector Decree’s Goals.

A comprehensive report to help you make decisions

At the conclusion of this project, Geothermaq will provide you with a detailed preliminary design (APS) study report that includes:

  • The choice of the recommended geothermal technology.
  • The comprehensive regulatory study.
  • The preliminary design of the structures (number of probes, depth and diameter of the wells, groundwater flow rate, etc.).
  • The sizing of systems for the production, control, and distribution of heating and cooling.
  • Financial estimate for underground and above-ground construction work.
  • A comparison with the benchmark solution.
  • Calculating the amount of ADEME grants (Heat Fund) and Energy Savings Certificates (CEE).
  • The Environmental Assessment.

Why should you entrust your project to Geothermaq?

GEOTHERMAQ, a certified expert in small-scale geothermal energy recognized by the Ministers of the Economy and Ecological Transition, is authorized to issue an opinion on GMI “orange” zones. Its OPQIBI RGE 1007 certification guarantees recognized administrative engineering expertise, which is essential for accessing grants from the ADEME Heat Fund and Energy Efficiency Certificates (CEE). As the primary technical point of contact for government agencies, it also provides ongoing regulatory monitoring to anticipate any changes that could impact your project.
